Those who remember the Hollywood heyday of the 1950s are invited to a free matinee film show at a Totnes cinema.

A special screening of the Doris Day classic Calamity Jane will be shown at the Follaton Community Centre on Monday, November 26.

Cinema chairman Martin Foster said: "Although we do get older people coming along to our evening screenings, we thought a matinee screening of a classic musical would prove popular.

"We've invited people from a number of residential homes in the area, but anyone over 60 is welcome to come along with their partners or companions to enjoy a free film show.

"It starts at 2pm and there's even free tea and cake so they can get the full community cinema experience."

Calamity Jane, first released in 1953, was said to be a favourite at the residential homes and the Follaton Community Cinema team will show it on state-of-the-art cinema equipment they bought with a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
