A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his mother.
Andrew Cane, aged 30, went missing after the body of Linda Sheard was found at an address in Port Mer Close, Brixington, near Exmouth, Devon, on July 11.
He was arrested in the Gloucester area in the early hours of the following Saturday before being charged with her murder.
Cane, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans and flanked by security officers, appeared before Exeter Crown Court today where he denied one count of murder.
Defence counsel Kerim Fuad QC said his client was likely to plead guilty to manslaughter at a future hearing, something not accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Cane, who spoke only to confirm his name, was remanded in custody for the next hearing on January 4, 2013.
A trial is listed for July next year and is due to last up to eight days.
