A crash on the A30 has left two elderly people injured.

Police say their black Fiat Punto left the A30 at Yarcombe, near Uppottery at 3:42pm today.

The two elderly occupants, a male and a female, were trapped in the car.

Three fire crews arrived and requested a further appliance with cutting equipment and an appliance from Sidmouth and the rescue tender from Middlemoor.

The two occupants were released from the car by fire fighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.

They are said to have suffered whiplash and facial injuries.

The A30 is closed in both directions between the A303 junction and the Hilltop Services junction.
