A motorist has pleaded guilty to punching another man in the face in a road rage row that erupted in front of a school.

Christopher Dean, 47, of Redside Terrace, Cowley, pleaded guilty in Exeter Magistrates Court yesterday of assaulting Adrian Saffin during an incident close to the gates of Newton St Cyres Primary School on April 30.

The court heard how Mr Saffin was driving there at 8.55am, around the time parents were dropping children off at the school. The other car, driven by Dean, parked up and the victim took issue as he felt it had obscured his view.

Prosecuting, Phillip Sewell said the victim then pulled the window down and gestured to indicate the driver to move forward. A row then broke out between the two men and Mr Saffin was punched in the face. Dean was sentenced to 80 hours' unpaid work and told to pay compensation of £100.
