FIREFIGHTERS were sent to more than 20 flooding incidents across South Devon over night and are still being called to properties after heavy rain.

Fire appliances from Paignton, Torquay, Totnes and Brixham were out and about assisting occupiers by unblocking drains, pumping water out of properties and minimising damage to belongings and property.

By 7am on Saturday Fire Control had mobilised to 23 flooding incidents between in Torquay, Paignton, Totnes, Dartington, Staverton, Kingswear, Stoke Gabriel, Broadhempston, Littlehempston, Brixham and Kingskerswell.

The floodwater in properties ranged from a few inches to 4 feet deep.

Crews used light portable pumps, mini ejector pumps and major pumps to remove water from properties, along with dry suits for protection. Blocked drains and culverts were also cleared of debris to assist with draining away the floodwater.

Two people were also helped from their vehicles when they became stuck in shallow floodwater.

Fire appliances from Kingston, Modbury and Dartmouth were in attendance at further flooded properties assisting occupiers.
