Exeter City captain Danny Coles has hit out at a section of the St James's Park crowd who cheered his substitution on Saturday and booed the withdrawal of David Wheeler.

City manager Paul Tisdale made two changes, with the side trialing 2-1 to Bury.

Arron Davies and Tom Nichols were brought on with Coles and Wheeler departing.

Ironic cheers went up as Coles was taken off, while boos echoed around the ground as man-of-the-match Wheeler was withdrawn.

Fans even started chanting 'you don't know what your doing' at Tisdale, whose side went onto to grab a late equaliser through Nichols.

The actions of the home crowd angered, Coles who took to Twitter to write.

The Tweets got some support from fans, with one writing:

And another saying:

However, some were less than pleased:

It even forced former Grecian Richard Logan to offer Coles some advice:

Hats off to Danny Coles. Every player has an off day! How is cheering a substitution supposed to motivate the player then? I have supported Exeter City for over 30 years. I have never been embarrassed of our supporters until this season and last! However, I don't think it is just Exeter 'fans' that act like lame brained morons. Its modern day football fans in general. The idiots who boo and sing "you don't know what you're doing", to Tis, OUR GREATEST EVER MANAGER are media led, nodding dogs! I honestly blame the media for the state of football in 2013. Look how many managers got sacked at the weekend. I have lost count actually. Its a bloody soap opera nowadays. And you know the type of people who watch soap operas don't you? I rest my case. Paul Tisdale is doing a fine job. Get real City 'fans'! Who else is going to do any better with our budget then? If you don't like the way Tis manages, don't bother coming to home games any more! You won't be missed.

Oh what short memories some people have. Here are some facts for the doubters. Manager since 2006. First season Play Off Final at Wembley. Second season won promotion back in to the football league. Third season -won promotion to League One. Finished 8th. Beating teams that had been in the Championship. Only the fourth manager in the club's history to achieve promotion. December 2008 unbeaten in 125 matches. Previously the record was 53 matches. Last season finished 10th just outside the play offs on points. This season only 6 points of the play offs - two wins. Perhaps those who booed and chanted "You don't know what you're doing" may wish to reconsider their position given the facts about Paul Tisdale's managerial skills. Social Media may not be the best vehicle for expressing his views but nonetheless Mr Coles may have a point. And Mr Tisdale - thank you. Keep up the good work. I'm sure things will pick up.
