A SUSPECTED drug dealer has been released on police bail.

The man was arrested after a car collided with a lamp post near Marsh Mills on Monday morning.

Motorists faced delays in the Marsh Mills and Plympton areas after the incident.

The crash happened on Plymouth Road just outside the McDonalds restaurant.

Police were called to the scene at 9.40am and ambulance crews also attended.

A man was being treated for a possible arm injury, emergency services said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 25-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a quantity of illegal drugs.

He is also being investigated for other potential driving offences, a force spokesperson said.

A silver VW Golf registered to a Torquay address was involved in the incident.

Police said one man fled from the scene carrying a bag before he was stopped by the police dog with help from a member of the public.

The vehicle was recovered by police.

One lane of the busy route remained blocked until shortly before 12pm.

The man, who has been released on bail, will have to report back to police on February 3.
