A senior communications professional is set to leave her role at Plymouth University, after being appointed to a new position at the University of Exeter.

Plymouth University’s current director of external relations and communications, Jane Chafer, has been appointed as Exeter’s director of communication and corporate affairs and will take up the post in February.

Ms Chafer’s career has also encompassed roles at the University of Sheffield and within the private sector, with BT and Mars.

The University of Exeter’s chief operating officer Claire Baines said: “Jane’s experience and expertise will add to our current team, where she will focus on expanding the level of our internal communications, international reputation and political influence in the sector.”

Welcoming Ms Chafer, Exeter’s vice-chancellor, Sir Steve Smith said: “I am delighted that Jane will join us in delivering our ambitions for the future. Communications and reputation have never been more important in the globally competitive education market.”
