The chief constable of Devon & Cornwall Police, Shaun Sawyer, has offered his congratulations to the winner of the Police and and Crime Commissioner election, the Conservative Tony Hogg.

"I would like to congratulate Tony Hogg on being the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly," he said.

The chief constable also took the opportunity to share his belief that the new Police and Crime Commissioner and the area's police force are on the same page when it comes to the long-term goals for policing in Devon and Cornwall.

"I believe that we both share the same long-term aspirations of reducing crime, enhancing the safety and well-being of the public and their quality of life. I will fully support Tony in his role," he said.

Tony Hogg will take up office on 22 November.

I am very happy with policing in D and C as it is now. I see no reason for change.
