'Chemical incident' at Ambrosia factory in Lifton

Police and six fire crews have been called to a 'chemical leak' has closed a road in Lifton.

At 1.30pm police were asked to attend the Ambrosia Creamery in Lifton.

A spillage of nitric acid has left five staff members needing decontamination which fire crews are assisting with.

They are currently managing traffic flow in the immediate area.

The six fire crews at are from Launceston, Tavistock, Okehampton and Hatherleigh.

A police spokesman said: "We believe some chemicals have been spilt with the potential to cause breathing problems"

Five fire crews are on the scene but police say there is no threat to the general public.

Milk is delivered fresh to the Devon creamery in Lifton every day to be made into canned desserts, including custard and rice pudding.
