A crash on the A38 at Kennford blocked one lane of the carriageway today after hail and sleet fell during the early hours.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene to find five vehicles had collided on the Southbound carriageway at 9:10am just after the A30 junction.

One car was found wedged between two trees off the carriageway.

The rest of the vehicles came to halt in the central reservation.

Police say the icy conditions, combined with heavy sleet is thought to have contributed to the crash.

One minor injury was reported.

Gritters were called into the clear the sleet and slush which had built up during heavy sleet downpours during this morning.

A police spokesman said: "Traffic in the area is heavy and disrupted but it is moving, albeit slowly."

The road was cleared by 12:30pm.
