The Cornish Pirates have continued their busy week of recruitment for the new Championship season by adding two more players to their squad.

The Penzance club added three backs to their ranks on Monday - Luke Jones, Mike Pope and Angus Sinclair – and they have now been joined by two back-row forwards from Exeter Chiefs.

Chiefs academy graduate Joel Conlon featured in the victorious England Under-20 squad that won the Junior World Championship in over the summer and will play for Pirates on dual registration this season.

The 19-year-old made his professional debut for the Chiefs against London Welsh in the LV= Cup last season.

John Stevens - the youngest son of former Pirate 'Stack' Stevens will also make the trip to Mennaye Field, hoping to feature in the alongside Conlon this term.

A product of the Pirates youth section, Stevens was educated at Truro. He was also a joint winner of the Mischler Memorial Cup last season, which is awarded annually to the player adjudged to have made the greatest contribution to the Cornwall Schools Under- 18.

Cornish Pirates head coach Ian Davies said: “Building on the good relations we have built with Exeter Chiefs we welcome Joel and John to the Pirates.

“The two lads will be looking to emulate Sam Hill, Dave Ewers, Jack Yeandle and Jack Nowell who gained game time with us and are all now pushing for Premiership spots with the Chiefs.”
