A 50-year-old man was in critical condition in hospital yesterday after being attacked in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The man was assaulted in Friarn Lawn at about 11.30pm on Monday.

Police believe he was attacked by someone who got out of a silver car.

The victim, who had been with friends in the Green Dragon and Three Lions pubs that evening, was taken to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital.

Avon and Somerset Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the assault or events earlier in the evening which may have lead to the attack to come forward.
