Police are appealing for help to find an elderly Taunton man who has been missing since this morning.

Peter Carver, 89, was last seen yesterday afternoon, but is thought to have gone missing from the Eastgate Gardens area in the early hours of this morning.

Police are appealing for residents in the area to check their sheds, outbuildings and garages as they believe Peter may have tried to seek shelter from the snow.

He is described as white, around 5ft 9in tall with white hair, and he wears glasses.

It is thought he may be wearing slippers and a light coloured, possibly blue quilted-type gilet or waistcoat. He has a large plaster on the right hand side of his head.

"He may appear confused or depressed and it is not known whether he has taken any coat or other outerwear," said an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman.

"He may also not have taken medication which he requires.

"Peter regularly walks around Taunton town centre and may be sheltering from the bad weather in a shop.

"We would like people to check their sheds, outbuildings and garages as Peter may have sought shelter from the poor weather."

Anyone who has seen Peter can call police in Taunton on 101.
