Six members of staff at a Westcountry firm of chartered accountants are each celebrating 25 years of working for the business.
Simpkins Edwards staff Chris Bowker, Jason Shear Sarah Lock, Tara Watts, David Thorne and Sandy Bailey all began at the firm in trainee or junior positions. They were each presented with a gift to the value of £500 in recognition of their milestone anniversaries.
Tax partner Mr Bowker and tax manager Jason Shear work from the firm’s Exeter office, while accounts seniors Ms Lock and Ms Watts work in the Barnstaple office along with corporate manager David Thorne. Ms Bailey is a typist based at its Okehampton base.
Mr Bowker, who began as a tax trainee in 1988 and was appointed a partner at the age of 28, said: “The biggest difference over the past 25 years has been the technological advancements in the industry.
“The need to keep up-to-date with new legislation and policies has always been a big part of the job, but keeping up with new technology is something that has become more and more important.”
The firm’s senior partner Lynn Woodward said: “It could be thought of as unusual for people to stay with the same employer for that length of time these days, but we believe that with the right support and opportunities for career progression, individuals can develop and prosper fantastically well, as evidenced by our ‘silver six’.”
