Aaron Downes, Torquay United’s player of the year last season, has put pen to paper on a new deal at Plainmoor.

The Australian centre-back, 28, had agreed terms with manager Alan Knill, and he marked yesterday’s return to pre-season training by signing a two-year contract.

He played 41 games for the Gulls in 2013-2014, scoring five goals along the way.
